back to the 1920s; photographs of early campus scenes; memorabilia
such as clothing, mugs and pennants; early issues of the Beacon
and the Pioneer Times; significant items from the Library’s
special collections; and early issues of campus publications such
as catalogs, sports schedules and student handbooks. Also on view

dates in the institution’s history.
William Paterson University was founded in 1855 as the Paterson
City Normal School to improve the in-service training of teachers
while providing educational opportunities for the children of Paterson’s
mill workers. Today, nearly 11,500 students pursue studies in 30
majors and 19 graduate programs, taking classes seven days a week
on a vast 370-acre Wayne campus in facilities equipped with state-of-the-art
technology.
