WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOSTS GUITARFEST 2004 ON MAY 1
—International award-winning guitarist and recording artist Mark Delpriora to perform and conduct master class


The William Paterson University Music Department presents its ninth annual guitar
festival, Guitarfest 2004, on Saturday, May 1 at Hobart Manor on the university campus in Wayne. The day’s events include concerts, a master class by guest artist Mark Delpriora and a lecture demonstration. The program is open to all guitar enthusiasts, from high school students to adults. Admission is $10 for one or more events.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a performance by Staten Island’s Curtis High School Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Lou Mannarino. At noon, jazz guitarist and William Paterson University guitar instructor Paul Meyers will present a lecture/demonstration on jazz on the nylon string guitar. Delpriora will perform at 2:45 p.m. and will conduct a master class for auditioned guitarists at 4:15 p.m. Guitarfest 2004 will close with a William Paterson University guitar student recital at 7:45 p.m.

Delpriora, who is also a composer and educator is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the first Andrés Segovia Award from the Manhattan School of Music, the Artists International Distinguished Artist Award, and a United Nations Travel Grant. Delpriora has performed widely throughout North and South America and was twice chosen to perform in Andrés Segovia master classes. Delpriora has recorded for Koch International Classics, Soundspells, Philips, and CRI. Recent compositions include “Sonata No. 3” (Gilardino), published by Edizioni Musicali Bèrben, and “Four Images,” published by Guitar Arts Publishing. Currently, Delpriora is on the guitar faculty of the Manhattan School of Music.
