JIMMY BOSCH JOINS THE WILLIAM PATERSON
UNIVERSITY LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE FOR JAZZ ROOM SERIES
Jimmy Bosch, a trombonist and veteran of the Latin jazz music scene,
will perform with the William Paterson University Latin Jazz Ensemble
on Sunday, February 29 at 4 p.m. at William Paterson University as
part of the winter 2004 Jazz Room Series in the Shea Center for Performing
Arts on the campus in Wayne.
Tickets are available in advance or on the day of the performance
at $12 standard, $9 for senior citizens, non-William Paterson students
and William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni. William Paterson students
may attend free of charge.
Prior to the concert, Bosch will be the guest for “Sittin’
In,” an informal discussion about jazz, at 3 p.m. in room 101
of Shea Center. Admission is free to all Jazz Room ticketholders.
Originally from Hoboken, Bosch began playing the trombone professionally
in local groups at the age of 13. He became an experienced trombonist
and collaborated with talented salsa musicians including Cachao, Celia
Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto, the Machito Orchestra, Oscar D’Leon
and Marc Anthony.
His exceptional talents have placed him at the center of the Latin
music movement. In 1998 and 1999, Bosch and his band were invited
to the most prestigious national and international jazz and world
music festivals. These performances helped Bosch launch his career
as a solo artist and his initial recording, “Soneando Trombon,”
at major venues around the world.
The William Paterson University Latin Jazz Ensemble is an explosive
20-piece big band that performs authentic Latin jazz. Directed by
the dynamic Latin jazz musician Chico Mendoza, the band plays original
compositions and arrangements by Mendoza, Tito Puente, and other leading
contemporary composers. One of the only college groups of its kind
in the country, the William Paterson University Latin Jazz Ensemble
has appeared at the Village Gate in New York City, among other venues.
Now in its 26th year of exciting performances, The Jazz Room is one
of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events
in the country. Performers include renowned professionals who encompass
the complete spectrum of jazz, from practitioners of traditional jazz
to avant-garde to bebop to swing to Afro-Latin jazz-as well as William
Paterson’s own student ensembles. The series has won numerous
grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey
Council on the Arts for its innovative programming.
