Sandra S. Deller Named Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Sandra S. Deller has been appointed vice president for Institutional Advancement at William Paterson University following a national search.

She is responsible for providing overall leadership, management and coordination of the University's fund raising, alumni affairs, public relations, marketing and publications programs.

“I am delighted that Sandra has joined the William Paterson University community to assist us in developing the relationships and resources that will support university excellence,” said Arnold Speert, president. “She will provide policy level direction and supervision of fund-raising programs as we begin the final two-year phase of our comprehensive fund-raising campaign.”

Deller, who brings more than twenty years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of fund raising, institutional advancement, development and public relations to the institution, most recently held the position of assistant vice president of principal gifts at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, a private, research institution with an endowment of more than $1.4 billion. In that role, she was the senior development officer reporting to the CWRU president.

Previously, she served as director of major gifts and special assistant to the senior vice president of development and university relations at CWRU. In that role, in concert with the senior administration cabinet, she planned a $1 billion capital campaign for the institution. From 1987 to 1992, she was executive director of development and external affairs for the Bolton School of Nursing at CWRU.

Earlier in her career, Deller served as director of development for the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center, as a consultant to John Carroll University, as the director of development and public relations at the Greater Lafayette Museum of Art in Lafayette, Indiana and as producer, talent coordinator, and host for Midbreak-18, a live weekly news and interview program broadcast on the CBS-affiliate in Lafayette.

Deller is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in English and communications and she has completed graduate course work at Butler University and Purdue University in Indiana. Her book with Joyce Fitzpatrick, Fundraising Skills for Health Care Executives, was selected for the American Journal of Nursing “Book of the Year” award for 2001.

William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey, offers 30 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs through five colleges: Arts and Communication, the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health.

Located on 370 hilltop acres in Wayne, the University enrolls nearly 11,200 students and provides housing for nearly 2,300 students. The institution’s 366 full-time faculty are highly distinguished and diverse scholars and teachers, many of whom are recipients of prestigious awards and grants from the Fulbright Program (30 scholars), the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the American Philosophical Society.
