BP Lubricants USA Inc. has donated $60,000 to William Paterson University’s
Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business in support of faculty research,
scholarships, and ongoing programs including the creation of the
Mary Thompson Memorial Scholarship for students enrolled in the
University’s Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales
(RBI).
Mary Thompson was a much respected employee of BP. She began her
career in sales, was promoted to sales training manager and retired
as the vice president of human resources after 19 years with the
company. Soon after her retirement, she was fatally injured in an
automobile accident.
The first recipient of the $5,000 scholarship is Richard Morales
of Dumont, a senior, majoring in business administration who meets
the criteria of the scholarship which include: participating in
entrepreneurial activities, and showing excellence in the use of
the Russ Berrie Professional Sales Lab.
“I am currently an intern with Harrison Advertising, a subset
of Viacom Outdoor,” he said. “Here, I have been able
to put my acquired skills to the true test and am gaining tangible
experience. As a result, I have discovered that this is a subject
matter and career path that I am truly passionate about. Being selected
as the recipient of this scholarship only provides further encouragement.”
The Institute represents a unique partnership between the private
sector and higher education designed to advance the field of professional
sales. Housed within the University’s Christos M. Cotsakos
College of Business, RBI provides educational and training opportunities
for students and sales professionals. The behavioral labs support
the Institute’s programs by providing a unique and interactive
business environment for students and professionals to develop and
perfect sales skills.
“With this scholarship BP Lubricants is creating an important
opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in sales,”
says Jim Brown, executive director of RBI. “Students who learn
to excel in the Russ Berrie Professional Sales Lab are well on the
way to success as professional sales people and this scholarship
is a wonderful addition to the University’s mission to support
student success.”
William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and
