GOLDIE HAWN TO SPEAK AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 AT
6:45 P.M. AS PART OF SATELITTE BROADCAST TO MORE THAN 300 COLLEGES NATIONWIDE
—Hawn to speak on “The Pursuit of Joy” as part of The National Society of Leadership and Success Speaker Series
Goldie Hawn, the actress, philanthropist and author of the recent memoir, A Lotus Grows in the Mud, will visit William Paterson University in Wayne on Monday, September 26 at 6:45 p.m. to deliver a lecture that will be broadcast to more then 300 locations across the United States.
Although her appearance will be limited to a student audience in the University’s Martini Teleconference Center, her lecture will be televised live to an audience in Shea Center on campus, which is open to the public. Admission is free. Following her address Hawn will make a brief live appearance in Shea Center and will be available for book signing; her book will be available for purchase at Shea Center.
Her lecture is sponsored by William Paterson’s Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership and presented by The Society of Leadership and Success, a national organization designed to give college students the motivation, support and training to become effective leaders. William Paterson University currently serves as the host site for the Society’s Speaker Series, and provides live uplinks via satellite to more than 300 member colleges, universities and high schools nationwide. The institution also hosts a student chapter of the society; students who participate in the speaker series and other activities are offered membership in Sigma Alpha Pi, the society’s leadership honor society.
Hawn has starred in more than 25 movies, including Cactus Flower, Private Benjamin, Swing Shift, and The First Wives Club. Winner of the Academy Award for best supporting actress for Cactus Flower, she was nominated for best actress for Private Benjamin, and has been nominated for numerous Golden Globe and New York Film Critic Circle awards.
Her compassion for others has led her to pursue philanthropic work, including support for Operation Smile, which offers reconstructive surgery to children in less-developed countries. In her 2005 memoir, A Lotus Grows in the Mud, she shares lessons she has learned and the wisdom she has gained from a lifetime of formative experiences, and discusses her views on love, anger, compassion, integrity, friendship and the importance of family through the mindful pursuit of a successful and joyous life without the loss of compassion for others.
