WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOSTS A WIDE RANGE OF SUMMER CAMPS WITH TOPICS RANGING FROM COMPUTERS AND COMEDY TO ART AND ROBOTS

Comedy, jazz, art, forensics and nursing are just a few of the topics of summer camps and workshops to be held at William Paterson University in Wayne during July for high school students and adults who would like to expand their knowledge of academic and personal interests. Students will receive intensive, hands-on learning from faculty and other expert instructors. All summer courses are held on the University’s campus in Wayne. Register early on the Web and receive a discount on all courses.

12th Annual Jazz Improvisation Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
The program offers six exciting jazz ensembles and classes in improvisation, arranging and jazz history. The workshop also features world-renowned artists in nightly clinics and concerts, an evening a the New York City jazz club Iridium and a final concert with students and resident faculty. Tuition: $499 for commuters, $699 for residents. For students 14 and older. Comedy Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
Everyone who enjoys a good laugh is invited to study, write and perform comedy this summer along with the funniest minds in the industry today, including members of the American Comedy Institute of New York City. The program offers sitcom writing and improvisation as a competitive sport. The workshop culminates in final performances of stand-up, sketch and competitive improvisation. Course is geared to adults of any age. Tuition: $499 for commuters, $699 for residents. Comic Book Art and Design, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
The program introduces students to the world of comic book illustration and writing. Students will explore anatomy, layout and character design and produce their own original comic book. Computer Graphics and Games Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)

Drawing Marathon, July 11-22 (credit or non-credit)
Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on drawing workshops with resident faculty members who will provide instruction on still life, figure and landscape drawing. They will also participate in the creation of an 8 x 100 foot mural drawing. Activities include films, an evening museum visit, field trips and slide shows. Film and Video Summer Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
Students attending this camp will receive an exciting hands-on learning experience while they write, film, act, direct, produce and publish their own DVD movie using digital video cameras, image and sound editing devices and other equipment. Flash Computer Workshop, August 1-5 or August 8-12 (credit or non-credit)
Macromedia Flash is the industry standard for Web page animation. This workshop will cover the skills needed to make a Web site come alive with Flash animation, including animation effects, sound, incorporating movies and more. Forensics Summer Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
The program teaches students how to use chemistry and biology, handwriting and hair samples, and other physical evidence from the crime scene to solve crimes. No prior knowledge about scientific principles or techniques is assumed. Tuition: $495 for commuters, $645 for residents. Future Nurses Summer Camp, July18-22, or July 25-30 (credit or non-credit)
Introduces high school students to real-life nursing experiences and provides training for professional CPR certification, including training in the use of a defibrillator. Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
This workshop will provide students with an opportunity to work with and learn industry-standard software. Creating artwork from scratch as well as editing digital photography, scanning, and organizing images will be covered. Students should be comfortable using Microsoft Windows. Science Challenge Summer Workshop, July 24-30 (credit or non-credit)
Students in this program are introduced to cutting-edge topics and developments in science. The workshop culminates in a poster session and presentation. This camp teaches students how to increase their personal wealth while engaging in hands-on trading using the E*TRADE Financial Learning Center’s state-of-the-art trading floor. A week of intensive writing geared to high school students considering futures as journalists, poets, novelists, public relations specialists, and editors.
