William Paterson University Presents Jazz Nativity featuring Slide Hampton, Jimmy Slyde, and Dave Valentin as the Three Kings

The legendary production of “Bending Towards the Light, a Jazz Nativity,” featuring Slide Hampton, Jimmy Slyde, and Dave Valentin as the three kings, will be presented at William Paterson University on Saturday, December 3.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on the campus in Wayne. Tickets are available in advance or on the day of the performance at $40 and $30 depending on seating, and $15 for students.

A holiday event unlike any other, the Jazz Nativity began in 1985 as a musical benefit for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York, and has attracted the talents of some of the most recognized jazz legends as the kings, shepherds, and angels.

Slide Hampton, a master trombonist, composer, arranger and teacher, is known for his tireless mission to bring jazz to audiences around the world. Jimmy Slyde, whose real name is James T. Godbolt, is a world-renowned tap dancer and is especially known for his innovative tap style mixed with jazz.  Dave Valentin, a jazz flutist from the South Bronx, plays a versatile jazz style, featuring salsa and a variety of ethnic and  classical sounds.
