WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO HOLD WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ON SEPTEMBER 20
—Judy George, founder and CEO of Domain Home Fashions, is keynote speaker
A conference designed to provide women with an opportunity to network and learn about leadership from women in a variety of business settings will be held at William Paterson University in Wayne on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. The event, in the University’s building at 1600 Valley Road, begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. and dessert and coffee at 8 p.m. The cost is $25 per person.
Judy George, founder and CEO of Domain Home Fashions, will be the keynote speaker. The conference will also include a panel discussion with Eileen Scott, CEO of Pathmark Stores, Inc. and a 1976 graduate of William Paterson; Susan Lisovicz, co-host of CNN’s “In the Money” and a 1978 graduate of William Paterson; and Pam Fischer, vice president of public affairs, AAA New Jersey Automobile Club.
George’s Boston-based specialty home furnishings chain, Domain Home Fashions, is at the forefront of the home furnishings industry, with more than 30 stores in seven states. Prior to founding Domain in 1986, she served as president of Scandinavian Design for nine years as the company grew from four to 87 stores. For the past 20 years, George has served as a spokesperson for the home furnishings industry and is credited with leading design concepts for the home. She is the winner of The Retailer of the Year Award, the only woman ever to have been given this prestigious award. Domain Home Fashions is ranked 201st among Working Woman magazine’s “Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses” and 79th among the top 100 furniture stores in the country.
George is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. In 1996, she was selected to participate in the first-of-its-kind Women in Trade Business Development Mission in Amsterdam and London, representing U.S. women CEOs. The recipient of the Anti-Defamation League’s prestigious American Heritage Award in 2004, she was voted Ernst & Young’s Northeast Region Entrepreneur of the Year in 2003, and honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration at their “Celebrating Women in Business” breakfast that same year. George is the co-author of two books, The Domain Book of Intuitive Home Design and The Intuitive Businesswoman.
Scott, who was named president of Pathmark in October 2002, is one of just a handful of women who have reached top management in the food retailing industry. She previously served as executive vice president, store operations, and in various senior level merchandising and operations positions with the company. She joined Pathmark in 1969 as a cashier and part-time bookkeeper at the Paulison Avenue store in Clifton. Scott is a member of Pathmark’s Board of Directors and a board member of Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., and The Food Bank for New York City. She is an executive committee member of The Food Marketing Institute (FMI), and vice chair of The Food Policy Institute at Rutgers University. Scott is a 1976 graduate of William Paterson with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was awarded the President’s Medal by the University in 2003, given for outstanding service to the University community, academe, or society as a whole. She has presented several lectures to students in the University’s Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business.
Lisovicz is the co-host of CNN's weekend business program “In the Money,” as well as a correspondent for CNN Business News. In her role as correspondent, she reports from the New York Stock Exchange, where she provides business market updates for CNN Business News. Previously, Lisovicz co-anchored CNNfn's Market Call and was a regular contributor to the Moneyline News Hour. Before CNNfn, Lisovicz was a correspondent and anchor at CNBC. Lisovicz has worked as an anchor for CNN Headline News and traveled all over the country as a general assignment correspondent for CNN. She is a former president of the New York Financial Writers' Association and has served on its board of governors. Lisovicz was named as a Jefferson Fellow for the spring of 2001 and traveled to China, Japan and Vietnam as part of that fellowship. She is a 1976 graduate of William Paterson with a bachelor’s degree in communication, and received the University’s President’s Medal in 1999.
Fischer is vice president of public affairs and financial services for the AAA New Jersey Automobile Club. She also directs the activities of the New Jersey Automobile Club Foundation for Safety and Education and is chairman of AAA’s award-winning child passenger safety initiative, “Seated, Safe & Secure.” One of four public members appointed by former Governor McGreevey to lead the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, she is a member of the Governor’s Highway Traffic Safety Policy Advisory Committee, Highway Safety Task Force and Driver Education Commission, and serves on several New Jersey Department of Transportation task forces. She has served as a United Way of Morris County volunteer for twenty-two years and is past chairman of the organization’s Women’s Leadership Initiative.
