WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PREMIERES NEW PLAY, TUESDAY IN JERSEY WITH ANDY, FROM FEBRUARY 10 TO 18
William Paterson University in Wayne will present a new production, Tuesday in Jersey with Andy, a black comedy by playwright Dennis Russo, from February 10 to 18 in the Hunziker Black Box Theater on campus. The play was the grand prize winner in the University’s second annual New Jersey Playwrights Competition held in fall 2005.
Tuesday in Jersey with Andy is a comedy about how two men handle loss. Andy, a retired hockey player, blames Peter, a moderately successful playwright, for a tragic automobile accident. In an attempt to force an apology, Andy kidnaps Peter, and the result is very funny for the audience…if not for Peter.
The cast includes William Paterson students Fred Henry of South Amboy as Andy, Kevin Snyder of Passaic as Peter, and Pedro Jimenez of Hoboken as The Bostonian. The production is directed by Ron Mulligan.
Russo is a member of the performing arts faculty at Raritan Valley Community College. He has performed in numerous theaters in New York City including the Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Signature Theatre. His first playwriting effort, Saving the Theatre, ran at the Westbeth Theatre Center and was later developed at the Actors Studio under the direction of Louise Lasser. He is the recipient of a 2005 fellowship for playwriting from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. A graduate of Montclair State University, Russo earned a master of fine arts degree in acting from The New School. He is a member of the Actors Studio and the Dramatist Guild of America. Russo is a resident of Somerville.
