Rene Bord Presents Solo Exhibit at William Paterson University’s Ben Shahn Galleries
Rene Bord, a printmaker and designer, will present a solo exhibit at the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University in Wayne from January 30 through March 3, 2006. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. A reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, February 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.
The exhibit, titled “Prints and Drawings,” is based on the French artist’s explorations of the micro environs of village scenes as well as the macro imaginings of the universe. In pen and ink, he renders a manor house, a stone wall, and a garden. The prints investigate large, abstract themes of light, depth, the force of nature and the cosmos.
A native of Lyon, France, Bord began his career as an industrial designer and moved into printmaking in 1968. He has exhibited in group shows in Japan, and at biennials in Poland, France, and Italy. Bord designed the medallion commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April 1834 revolt of the Lyon silk weavers, which was issued by the Paris Mint in 1984.
Bord is a graduate of the Fine Arts School of Lyon, the Atelier Alma in Lyon, and studied with the artists Michel Joyard and Paul Franck. He has exhibited his work internationally, and is the recipient of numerous awards.
The exhibit is one of three shows on view concurrently in the Ben Shahn Galleries. Paintings by David Krivin (1895-1982), a Polish immigrant and self-taught New Jersey artist, are on view in the South Gallery. “In Search of Duende,” a group of paintings by Sheba Sharrow, is on view in the Court Gallery.
The exhibit is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Ben Shahn Galleries are wheelchair accessible. Large-print handouts are available. For additional information, please call the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University at 973-720-2654.
