WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO HOLD MID-YEAR COMMENCEMENT ON JANUARY 22

William Paterson University in Wayne will celebrate its mid-year commencement on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Rec Center on campus.  In the event of severe inclement weather, the ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 29 at 1 p.m.      

A total of 893 undergraduate students are scheduled to receive bachelor’s degrees at the event, which marks the University’s 182nd commencement.  All graduates will have completed their degree requirements between August and December 2005.

President Arnold Speert will address the graduating class along with B. Marisol Lado, a graduating senior and president of the senior class.  Lado, a resident of Jersey City, will receive a bachelor of arts degree in sociology.  Donaldo Garcia, a senior faculty member in the College of Arts and Communication, will lead the academic procession in the role of University marshal.

In conjunction with commencement, the William Paterson University Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Chapter will host a Senior Send-Off reception on Friday, January 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rec Center on campus. All graduating seniors and their families are invited to attend.

Master’s degree candidates who earned degrees this month will be invited to participate in the graduate commencement ceremony on May 16, 2006 at 4 p.m. The graduate commencement is specially designed to honor the achievements of graduate students, and includes a hooding ceremony.

William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey, offers 32 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs through five colleges:  Arts and Communication, Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health.  Located on 370 hilltop acres in Wayne, the University enrolls nearly 11,000 students and provides housing for nearly 2,300 students.  The institution’s 375 full-time faculty are highly distinguished and diverse scholars and teachers, many of whom are recipients of prestigious awards and grants from the Fulbright Program (28 scholars), the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the American Philosophical Society.
