WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PRESENTS “WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER” FROM NOVEMBER 14 TO 20
William Paterson University in Wayne will present a production of “What I Did Last Summer,” A.R. Gurney’s drama, from November 14 to 20 in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus. “What I Did Last Summer” is a warm-hearted memory play, which, in delineating the coming of age of a teenage boy, pinpoints the foibles of the upper-middle-class society of which he is a product.
In “What I Did Last Summer,” prolific American playwright A.R. Gurney places Charlie, a rebellious fourteen-year-old, with his mother and sister in a well-to-do vacation colony on the shores of Lake Erie during the final stages of World War II in the summer of 1945. A bohemian art teacher, Anna Trumbull, tries to stretch his mind by teaching him painting and sculpture. A showdown between Anna and Charlie's conservative mother ensues, which raises as many questions as it answers
The cast features William Paterson University students and a professor: Dana Cipoletto of Montclair; Alison Jones of Jersey City; Luke Kurter of New Milford; Alexis Malafatopulous of Ramsey; Amada Schwartz of Moonachie; and Asmar Williams-Hemby of East Orange. The production is directed by Jerry Beal, William Paterson University assistant professor of communication, of Hoboken. Set design is by Evan Lewis of Jersey City.
