WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY SIGNS ARTICULATION AGREEMENT WITH NJIT
Students can earn accelerated master of science degrees in applied mathematics, applied statistics and computer science

William Paterson University students majoring in math and computer science can now earn accelerated master of science degrees in those fields through a new agreement between the University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

Math and computer science majors at William Paterson can begin graduate studies in applied mathematics, applied statistics, and computer science while completing their undergraduate degrees at William Paterson University.

Under the agreement, William Paterson math and computer science majors can take their first two NJIT graduate courses on the William Paterson campus during their senior year, with credits counting toward both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.  Students who successfully complete both courses and who have an overall grade point average of 2.8 will be automatically accepted into the appropriate NJIT master’s degree program without taking the Graduate Record Examination.  The program will enable full-time students to complete the combined bachelor’s/master’s degrees in five years.

“The affiliation with NJIT is a perfect fit for William Paterson University’s College of Science and Health,” says Sandra DeYoung, dean.  “Our computer science and mathematics students will have streamlined access to graduate degree or a certificate from a premier technology school.  Collaborations like this benefit the citizens of New Jersey.”

William Paterson alumni as well as working professionals who are not William Paterson students can also enroll in the NJIT classes. Working professionals who take the two classes but don't have time to enter a full-time NJIT master's program can transfer the credits towards a 12-credit NJIT graduate certificate in computer science or math.

“This new agreement will allow William Paterson students and alumni as well as professionals who live or work near the William Paterson campus, to advance their educations without leaving their backyards," says Gale Tenen Spak, associate vice president of continuing and distance learning education at NJIT. "Computer science and math are both areas in demand in the New Jersey economy and NJIT’s programs in both fields are nationally recognized.”

William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey, offers 32 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs through five colleges: Arts and Communication, the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health.  Located on 370 hilltop acres in Wayne, the University enrolls nearly 11,000 students and provides housing for nearly 2,300 students.  The institution’s 372 full-time faculty are highly distinguished and diverse scholars and teachers, many of whom are recipients of prestigious awards and grants from the Fulbright Program, the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

New Jersey Institute of Technology, the state's public technological research university, enrolls more than 8,100 students in bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in 100 degree programs offered by six colleges: Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey School of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, School of Management, Albert Dorman Honors College and College of Computing Sciences.  NJIT is renowned for expertise in architecture, applied mathematics, wireless communications and networking, solar physics, advanced engineered particulate materials, nanotechnology, neural engineering and eLearning.  In 2006, Princeton Review named NJIT among the nation's top 25 campuses for technology recognizing the university's tradition of research and learning at the edge in knowledge.
