Peruvian Music and Dance Performance to be Held at William Paterson University
The distinctive sound of Afro-Peruvian music combined with the rhythmic movements of dancers in colorful folkloric costumes come together in an energy-filled performance by Peru Negro, a Lima-based ensemble, on March 11 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts at William Paterson University in Wayne.
Peru Negro, appointed “Ambassadors of Peruvian Culture” by their government, was formed 30 years ago to preserve Peru’s African heritage. The music has evolved from its early slave roots to include home-made instruments, guitars and singing. Musicians and dancers join together on stage to create a celebration through sound and movement.
Tickets to the show are $35; $32 for seniors 65 and older and William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni; and $8 for William Paterson students. For ticket information, call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
