WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH IN MARCH

Lectures, performances, and films support the theme of “Women: Builders of Communities and Dreams,” during William Paterson University’s observance of Women’s History Month in March.  Most events are free, and open to the public. Events scheduled include:

Thursday, March 2
Opening Ceremony
“Building Dreams”
A lecture by Joetta Clark Diggs, Olympic All-Star
Diggs, a four-time Olympian and daughter of noted educator and William Paterson University alumnus Joe Clark, will present a lecture about building dreams.
Cheng Library Auditorium, 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Tuesday, March 7
Careers in Women’s Studies
Women’s Studies alumni share their career experiences
Hunziker Hall 203, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“The Vagina Monologues,” a play by Eve Ensler
Two benefit performances as part of a global campaign to help stop violence against women.
Black Box Theater, Hunziker Hall, 12:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
William Paterson students $3, faculty and staff $5, guests $7
Proceeds go to Strengthen Our Sisters Shelter, West Milford, NJ

Wednesday, March 8
International Women’s Panel
A panel of William Paterson University women will discuss the challenges of living and working in countries other than those in which they were born. Panelists include Yingcong Dai, assistant professor, history; Ofelia Garcia, dean, College of Arts and Communication; Jebaroja Singh, assistant professor, women’s studies; Melda Yildez, assistant professor, secondary and middle school education; and four international students, Happiness Akaniro, Vanessa Campos, Heidy Gil, Maite Rago, Donata Parisi.
Includes lunch.

Women’s Health Night
Take part in a free yoga class and/or aerobics class, get free health screening and register for the “Wellness Basket” raffle. Win exercise videos, yoga mat, and more.

“An Eighteenth Century Midwife’s Tale: A Film and Discussion of Martha Ballard’s Life and Diary”

Thursday, March 30
Closing Ceremony, Red Dress Dinner
To honor women in our community who are builders of dreams. Student winners of the Women’s History Month essay contest will read from their works. Minimum donation is $10 for William Paterson students, $20 for William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni, and $25 for all other guests. Proceeds go to the American Heart Association.
Valley Road Cafeteria, 5 p.m.

Events are presented by the William Paterson University Student Government Association, Student Activities Programming Board, and the Greek Senate; sponsors include the Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership, Counseling, Health and Wellness Center, Recreational Services, Residence Life, Women’s Center, and the Women Studies Department; and are supported by Alpha Sigma Tau, Center for International Education, Educational Enrichment Center, John Victor Machuga Foundation, Lambda Tau Omega, and the Race and Gender Project.
