WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOSTS GUITARFEST 2006 ON APRIL 29
—Flamenco guitarist Dennis Koster and composer-guitarist James Marron to perform

The William Paterson University Music Department will host the eleventh annual guitar
festival, Guitarfest 2006, on April 29 in the Atrium auditorium on the University campus in Wayne. The day’s events include concerts presented by guitarists Dennis Koster and James Marron, the North Carolina School of the Arts Guitar Quartet, University students and a seminar with Paul Meyers. The program is open to the public. Registration is $15 for one or more events.

Festivities begin at noon with a performance by William Paterson University students studying in the guitar program. At 2:30 p.m., jazz guitarist and William Paterson University guitar instructor Paul Meyers will present a seminar on improvising jazz on the nylon string guitar. Marron will perform at 4 p.m. and Koster takes the stage at 6:45 p.m.

Koster is a performer, author and specialist in Flamenco guitar music. His book, The Keys to Flamenco Guitar, is a historical account of the instrument and composers.  Marron, a composer and guitarist on the faculties of Ashland University and the University of Akron, has released two CDs of classical guitar music, Spring Rising and Six Poems for the Angels. Meyers, guitar instructor at William Paterson University, is a jazz and Brazilian guitarist who composes, teaches and records.
