William Paterson University to Participate in Innovation Partnership Institute in Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals
William Paterson University in Wayne is participating in a statewide consortium of education, business and workforce development partners that will seek to better prepare students for careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
The Innovation Partnership Institute in Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals, administered by the New Jersey Commission on High Education, will bring together representatives from 34 education and training organizations, including higher education institutions, K-12 schools, and workforce training organizations; and more than 200 biotechnology and pharmaceutical (biopharma) firms to determine the skills needed to help New Jersey maintain its leadership position in the competitive biopharma industry.
“We are very excited to be participating in this consortium,” says Sandra DeYoung, dean of the University’s College of Science and Health. “As one of the higher education institutions participating in the partnership, William Paterson will be involved in reviewing our current curriculum, identifying any skills gaps, and perhaps developing and piloting new curriculum modules.”
William Paterson offers bachelor of science and master of science degrees in biotechnology. Faculty members conduct research in a variety of areas, including genetics, neurobiology and molecular biology, and many regularly involve undergraduate and graduate students in their projects.
