CHINESE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS LEARN PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT IN A HANDS-ON SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY FROM AUGUST 6 TO 17

Thirty-three university students from China are visiting William Paterson University's Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business for an intensive program designed to teach portfolio management in a hands-on approach that differs from the traditional lecture format employed in most Chinese universities.

During the first two weeks (August 6 to 17) of a three-week program, participants will mainly study at William Paterson's E*TRADE Financial Learning Center, which provides a unique classroom environment: a real-time simulated trading and financial center where students learn about the principles of investing and money management and replicate real-world situations.

The program for the Chinese students is taught by William Paterson University faculty and financial experts from Wall Street. Students will be exposed to U.S. financial markets, institutions, and the investing techniques used on Wall Street. Classes will be held in English. In addition to contemporary portfolio management knowledge, the participants are being encouraged to build their own student-managed portfolio to strengthen finance learning, and then take that knowledge back to benefit their own institutions.

The campus program concludes with a closing ceremony on Friday, August 17 from 4:45 to 6 p.m. in the auditorium in the University's building at 1600 Valley Road.

During their stay in the New York area, they will visit the New York Stock Exchange, New York Mercantile Exchange, and other institutions. In the third week, the participants will travel around the U.S. visiting universities, government agencies, and other sites of interest.

The participants come from Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Zhejiang University of Technology.
