SINGER AND AFRO-PERUVIAN LEGEND EVA AYLLON TO PERFORM AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY ON NOVEMBER 2
Eva Ayllon, the Afro-Peruvian singer who has been selling out theatres worldwide for more than thirty years, will perform at William Paterson University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 8 p.m.
Ayllón has emerged as the leading exponent of Afro-Peruvian music. She sings the landó, the festejo, and the vals -- all mestizo blends of Peru’s indigenous African and Spanish musical heritage. Her performances burst with energy and exuberant dance moves as she performs new works as well as all-time favorite classics from the Peruvian songbook.
To date, she has produced more than 20 records, including a double Latin Grammy nomination in 2003 and a double platinum album in her native Peru.
Ayllon (born María Angélica Ayllón Urbina) adopted the stage name “Eva” from her maternal grandmother, Eva, who began teaching Maria music an early age. As a child and teen, Ayllon sang in school competitions and later on radio and television. In the 1970s, after releasing a record that featured the hit single “Que Somos Amantes,” Ayllon pursued a solo career and began attracting international attention.
The event is part of William Paterson’s University Performing Arts’ Vistas Series, designed to serve the University’s students and faculty, as well as the surrounding multicultural community. Funding for the Vistas Series at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
Tickets to the show are $40 for orchestra seats and $35 for loge. For ticket information, call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
