SINGER/SONGWRITERS JOHN GORKA AND DAR WILLIAMS TO PERFORM TOGETHER AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY’S VISTAS SERIES ON MARCH 30
Acclaimed singer/songwriters John Gorka and Dar Williams will perform live together for the first time at William Paterson University in Wayne on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.
Gorka is a native of New Jersey known for his mellow baritone. An acoustic-based singer/songwriter who has been performing for more than two decades, Gorka has released ten recordings, including his 2006 CD, Writing in the Margins. His songs have been recorded and/or performed by numerous well-known artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith. He appears regularly at clubs and theaters across North America.
Williams, whose music often focuses on social and environmental issues, has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez. She started touring in 1994 and has toured prolifically both nationally and internationally ever since. She has released six studio albums, including her most recent CD, My Better Self, plus Cry, Cry, Cry, a collaboration with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky, as well as a live album. Williams has also written two young adult novels for Scholastic, Amalee and Lights, Camera, Amalee.
The event is part of William Paterson’s University Performing Arts’ Vistas Series, designed to serve the University’s students and faculty, as well as the surrounding multicultural community. Funding for the Vistas Series at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State. The concert will receive promotional support from WFUV 90.7 FM.
