Grammy Award Winning Singer-Songwriter Lucinda Williams to Perform at William Paterson University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on September 27
Lucinda Williams, three-time Grammy Award winner, will perform at William Paterson University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on Thursday, September 27 at 8 p.m.
Her latest CD, West, an album that may well be Williams’ most personal work, has been praised by such publications as Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times. The singer-songwriter channels both her emotion and restive creative energy into a startling set of songs that touch on both darkness and redemption. The album’s 13 cuts attest to her willingness to stretch as a musician and to put herself on the line as a chronicler of life. “The songs deal with a chapter in my life and they definitely tell a story," says Williams.
Williams recently received three nominations for the 6th Annual Americana Honors and Awards. She was nominated for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (West) and Song of the Year (“Are You Alright?”).
Opening for Williams is the Country Music Hall of Fame legend, Charlie Louvin. Charlie, of the acclaimed Louvin Brothers, returns to the stage to perform songs from his first studio album in more than ten years. Louvin's influence on country, alt-country, and its many sub-genres, is incalculable. The unique harmonies and lyrical folk poetry of the Louvin Brothers have inspired countless covers of their songs by such artists as Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, and the Byrds.
The event is part of William Paterson’s University Performing Arts’ Vistas Series, designed to serve the University’s students and faculty, as well as the surrounding multicultural community. Funding for the Vistas Series at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
Tickets to the show are $55 for Gold Circle seating; $47 orchestra/loge; and $37 upper loge. For ticket information, call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
