THREE WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WIN AWARDS IN 2007 RBI NATIONAL SALES CHALLENGE

Michael Glowacki of Vernon, Laura DeMers of Paterson, and Joshua Schiller of Garfield, all students at William Paterson University in Wayne, were among the award winners in the 2007 Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales National Sales Challenge held at William Paterson University November 8-10.  The event, which drew students from 18 universities from 12 states, consisted of an intense series of three sales challenges judged by top sales executives.

Glowacki placed third overall, and first in the Sales Role-Play Competition, which required each student to perform a 15-minute sales call with a business executive in RBI’s simulated business offices.  The top four students from this event competed in a championship round that is featured on RBI’s Web site, www.rbinationalsaleschallenge.com.

Schiller placed second and DeMers placed fourth in the Speed Selling Competition.  Designed like a speed-dating event, students were required to explain to a series of executives, one after another in two minutes, the reasons why he/she should be hired and then respond to a one-minute question and answer session.

Students also competed in an In-Basket Sales Competition, a timed event that challenged the students’ ability to prioritize and make key decision regarding competing demands.

The event was created by the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales at William Paterson, which offers the only dedicated bachelor of science degree in professional sales in the country, as well as training programs for sales professionals.  Sales students across the nation competed to earn awards and job opportunities, including students from Purdue University, University of Toledo, University of San Francisco, University of New Orleans, University of Louisville, Western Michigan University, and The College of New Jersey, among others.

Corporate sponsors for the event included Hess, McKesson, Tom James, Enterprise Rent a Car, DHL, Becton Dickinson, Stryker, EMC, News America Marketing, Marriott Vacation Club International, Hilti, and AT&T.
