William Paterson University Celebrates Women’s History Month in March
A lecture by a civil rights activist, performances, and films support the theme of “Generations of Women Moving History Forward,” William Paterson University’s observance of Women’s History Month in March. Most events are free, and open to the public. Events scheduled include:
February 28
Women’s History Month Art Exhibition Opening
The exhibit, Metamorphosis of a Woman, will be open from February 28 to March 22 and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Artists are encouraged to submit works exploring or commenting on women’s issues. Deadline for submissions is February 20, 2007. Interested artists should contact the Women’s Center at x2946 or e-mail womenscenter@wpunj.edu

March 1
Women’s History Month Opening Ceremony
Special guest speaker Minnijean Brown-Trickey presents “Return to Little Rock: An ActivistLooks Back, and to the Future.” Minnijean Brown-Trickey was one of the “Little Rock Nine,” a group of African American teenagers who, in 1957, before an army of 1,200 soldiers, desegregated Central High by walking through its front doors.

As part of the Women’s Studies Colloquium Series, Dr. Lucia McMahon of the History Department presents “The Road to Seneca Falls: The Emergence of the Women’s RightsMovement in 19th Century America,” a lecture and discussion in honor of this year’s theme, “Generations of Women Moving History Forward.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and other foremothers of feminism, whose courage and dedication helped the U.S. women’s rights movement progress in the 19th century,are among those who will be discussed.
