PHOTOGRAPHS FROM WILLIAM PATERSON’S “SUMMER ART IN CHINA” TRIP TO BE FEATURED IN SPECIAL BEN SHAHN GALLERIES EXHIBIT
--Opening panel discussion, book signing, and reception to be held on Thursday, December 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.

A special exhibit of photographs taken by William Paterson University faculty and students during the University’s 2008 Summer Art in China study abroad trip will be on view from December 4 to 19 in the Ben Shahn Galleries on campus. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A special opening panel discussion, book signing and reception will be held on Thursday, December 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the galleries. Admission is free.

The exhibit features more than 30 photographs taken during last summer’s three-week study tour, which explored cultural locations in Beijing, Xi’an, Yangzhou, Nantong, Suzhou, and Shanghai. As a culmination of the tour, the faculty and students produced a book, Summer Art in China 2008, featuring essays and photographs focusing on the art, culture and education, and history of China’s cultural institutions, including museums.

A panel of faculty members and students will discuss the trip, including Zhiyuan Cong, William Paterson professor of art and director of the Summer Art in China program; Alan Lazarus, professor of art and chair of the University’s art department, and Louis Rivela, a retired professor of chemistry at William Paterson. Several students who participated in the trip will also be on hand to discuss their experiences.

The exhibit is sponsored by Ben Shahn Galleries; the Department of Art; Office of the Dean, College of the Arts and Communication; and the Student Art Association.

For additional information on the exhibit, please call the Ben Shahn Galleries at 973-720-2654.
