JAZZ ROOM SERIES CONTINUES WITH ROSEANNA VITRO AND KENNY WERNER QUARTET ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2

Jazz singer Roseanna Vitro and renowned pianist Kenny Werner and his Quartet will perform in the Jazz Room Series at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ on Sunday, November 2.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Prior to the concert, Vitro and Werner will be the guests for “Sittin’ In,” an informal discussion about jazz, at 3 p.m. in room 101 of Shea Center. Admission is free to all Jazz Room ticketholders.

Tickets are available in advance or on the day of the performance at $15 standard; $12 senior citizens, William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni; and $8 for non-William Paterson students. William Paterson students may attend free of charge.

Vitro has toured the world as an esteemed performer, clinician, recording artist, vocal instructor, and ambassador. Her collaborations, covering a wide range of music and stylistic directions, have been cited and celebrated, far and wide.

In this performance, she joins her long-time musical partner, the renowned pianist and arranger Kenny Werner.

An accomplished pianist and Grammy Award-nominated composer, Werner became a member of the Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1984. He performed with such notables as Rufus Reid, Ray Drummond and Jaki Byard, and also did stints in the groups of Eddie Gomez, Tom Harrell, and Joe Lovano, among others. He has also written compositions for the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, now known as the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

In March 2008, Vitro and Werner released their newest CD, The Delirium Blues Project: Serve or Suffer, a blues-based recording of jazz and pop repertoire that was recorded live at the Blue Note.

Launched in 1978, The Jazz Room is one of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events in the country. Performers include renowned professionals who encompass the complete spectrum of jazz, from practitioners of traditional jazz to avant-garde to bebop to swing to Afro-Latin jazz, as well as William Paterson’s own student ensembles. The series has won numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for its innovative programming.

Funding for The Jazz Room at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
