William Paterson University Celebrates Women’s History Month in March

Lectures, performances, and theater will support the theme of “Women’s Art, Women’s Vision,” William Paterson University’s annual observance of Women’s History Month in March. Most events are free, and open to the public. Events scheduled include:

Monday, March 3
Opening ceremony: Women’s Art: Women’s Vision
Guest Speaker: Jane Dickson, painter of urban life
The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., University Commons, Ballroom C

Tuesday, March 4
“The Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler
Benefit performance as part of a world-wide campaign to end violence against women and girls. Student with William Paterson ID: $5, faculty/staff/guests: $12 (Tickets sold at the door). Proceeds go to Strengthen Our Sisters shelter, West Milford
Performance at 7:30 p.m., Black Box Theater, Hunziker Hall

Wednesday, March 5
“The Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler
Performance at 7:30 p.m., Black Box Theater, Hunziker Hall

Thursday, March 6
Gorilla Research and Conservation: Reflections on an Anthropological Life
Guest Speaker: Melissa Remis, Ph.D, biological anthropologist, associate professor, Purdue University.
12:30 p.m., University Commons, Ballroom C

Monday, March 10
Girls House Café, a fun-filled musical night with “Women of Music”
8 to 10 p.m., University Commons, Ballroom C

Thursday, March 13
Desert Hearts, film and discussion based on Jane Rule’s novel, Desert of the Heart, Desert Hearts is a soulful portrayal of relationships between women. Light refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, March 25
Book Fair, Sisters of Lambda Tau Omega
Noon to 2 p.m., Student Center, Bookstore Lobby
Careers in Women’s Studies: Graduates of Women's Studies participate in a panel discussion about their careers and graduate school experiences.  Refreshments will be served.
6:30 to 9 p.m., Student Center, room 216

Talking With, by Jane Martin
From actress to a snake handler, Talking With continues the tribute to women’s voices through a dynamic series of women’s monologues. William Paterson community/seniors: $8; general admission: $12

Wednesday, March 26
Women’s History Month Closing Ceremony: Red Dress Dinner
Third annual celebration to honor recipients of the University’s Women of Vision Awards, as well as student essay contest winners.  Proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.
