TRUMPETER CHRIS BOTTI AND BASSIST CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE TO DISCUSS JAZZ DURING SPECIAL EVENT AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY ON MAY 6
—“Inside the Jazz Note” to benefit non-profit Jazz House Kids
Trumpeter and acclaimed recording artist Chris Botti, one of the world’s top-selling instrumental artists, will sit down for an evening of intimate conversation and performance hosted by the renowned jazz bassist Christian McBride on Wednesday, May 6 at 8 p.m. at William Paterson University in Wayne.
The event, “Inside the Jazz Note,” is presented by Jazz House Kids, a non-profit organization that brings music to public schools, hosts teacher development sessions, and runs workshops for students. Tickets for the event, in William Paterson’s Shea Center for Performing Arts, are $75 for VIP seating, $45, and $30. VIP tickets include premium seating and a post-event “meet-the-artist” reception. All proceeds will benefit Jazz House Kids’ educational programs.
Botti and McBride will present an inside look at the world of jazz, highlighting the experiences, innovations and ideas of today’s top contemporary artists. The interview will include video and audio recordings and will be followed by a Q & A with the audience.
Botti is a gifted instrumentalist, a talented composer, and a charismatic performer who—since the release of his first solo album in 1995—has created a series of recordings that have made him one of the world’s top-selling instrumental artists. Drawing from the worlds of pop, jazz, classical and other genres, Botti created his own signature sound, transforming the world of contemporary jazz while simultaneously finding success in the pop music sphere. He has earned both critical acclaim and mainstream appreciation for a succession of best-selling albums including When I Fall In Love, To Love Again: The Duets, Chris Botti Live with Orchestra & Special Guests, and, most recently, Chris Botti in Boston.
McBride has been the first-call bassist to accompany literally hundreds of artists, ranging in an impressive array from McCoy Tyner and Sting to Kathleen Battle and Diana Krall. However, it is his own recordings—albums that encompass a diverse canon of original compositions and imaginatively arranged covers—that reveal the totality of his musicianship. He currently leads one of the hottest bands in music, the propulsive Christian McBride Band (saxophonist Ron Blake, keyboardist Geoffrey Keezer and drummer Terreon Gully). He holds artistic director posts at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass summer program and the Dave Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, and is co-director of The Jazz Museum in Harlem and creative chair for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
