WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOMECOMING SET FOR OCTOBER 17
--Pioneer Football Team to Play The College of New Jersey at 4 p.m.

William Paterson University in Wayne will celebrate Homecoming 2009 on Saturday, October 17. Alumni and members of the local community are invited to participate in a variety of events hosted by the William Paterson University Alumni Association.

Events include an Alumni Association Carnival from noon to 3:30 p.m. in Zanfino Plaza, in front of the University Commons. Alumni and their families are invited to join in some old-fashioned fun, including amusements, contests, food tastings, demonstrations, and a pre-game social and step show. The cost is $10 person in advance, $15 per person on Homecoming Day; the event is free for children 12 and under with an accompanying parent.

The Pioneer Football Team squares off against The College of New Jersey at 4 p.m. in Wightman Stadium. Admission is $7, $5 for alumni with membership card. Other sports on tap include the Pioneer Volleyball Team vs. New York City Tech at noon in the Rec Center, and the Women’s Soccer Team vs. The College of New Jersey, also at noon in Pioneer Soccer Park.

An “all media” reunion brunch for alumni who were members of The Beacon or The Pioneer Times newspapers, or involved with radio and television on campus, will also be held.

Capping the Homecoming 2009 festivities will be the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Sunday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. in University Commons Ballroom on campus. Gerry Gallagher ’74, the Pioneers’ football coach from 1989-96, will be inducted along with Lesley Ann (Dube) Lubanski ’03 (field hockey), Robert P. Matthews, Sr. ’58 (men’s basketball), Raymond Ortiz ’02 (men’s basketball) and Rebecca (Schirrman) Gruver ’02 (women’s swimming). For the first time in Athletic Hall of Fame history, a team will be inducted; the 1992 baseball team will be honored for its national-championship season. Tickets for the ceremony and brunch are $21 per person.

Homecoming 2009 is underwritten, in part, thanks to the generosity of Liberty Mutual.
