WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE MICHAEL L. JACKSON AND ASSOCIATE PROVOST STEPHEN HAHN NAMED HONORARY MEMBERS OF INTERNATIONAL COMPUTING SCIENCES HONOR SOCIETY

Michael L. Jackson of Randolph, an information technology executive and secretary of the William Paterson University Board of Trustees, and Stephen Hahn of Waldwick, associate provost and professor of English at William Paterson, have been elected honorary members of William Paterson’s Gamma Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Computing Sciences Honor Society.
Jackson and Hahn were inducted as honorary members in recognition of their significant support and contributions to the University’s chapter, which was chartered in 1988.
Upsilon Pi Epsilon is the first and only international honor society in the computing and information disciplines. It has received endorsements from the two largest computer organizations in the world, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS). Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in computing or information disciplines who demonstrate academic excellence.
Jackson was elected secretary of the University’s Board in 2008. He was appointed to the Board in 2003 and currently chairs its Student Affairs Committee and also serves on the Personnel Committee.
Jackson has more than 25 years of experience in the computer technology field servicing the corporate and government sectors. Jackson is currently working on high-tech initiatives with technology firms throughout the Northeast corridor. Prior to founding Info-Tec Systems in 1989, he was a systems programmer, data center manager and technical support director, respectively, for Orentreich Medical Laboratory, Zeller & Letica Advertising and Mutual of New York (MONY) Financial Services. He received his bachelor of science degree in computer science from St. John’s University and his master of science degree in technology from the University of Maryland. In addition, Jackson has received certification in the Executive Management Training Program at New York University in business management. He has also earned several technical certifications in various disciplines including network data communication, application development and project management.
Hahn joined the faculty in the Department of English at William Paterson in 1984. In addition to his role as professor of English, he is currently associate provost at the University, a position he has held since 1997. Hahn is the author of books on Henry David Thoreau and Jacques Derrida, and co-editor of two books on teaching the works of William Faulkner, as well as numerous essays and reviews. Over the years he has conducted various English and writing workshops at colleges and high schools, and has chaired and coordinated a wide range of conferences on topics in English. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Amherst College, Hahn earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in English at Rutgers University. He has been a fellow at Princeton University and the Graduate School of Education, Harvard University. A past-president of the New Jersey College English Association, Hahn was the first recipient of the association’s Steven J. Rosen Mentor Award in 1997.
