MIDDAY ARTIST SERIES CONCERT ON MARCH 12 TO CELEBRATE MUSIC OF BEETHOVEN
--Raymond Torres-Santos, new dean of University’s College of the Arts and Communication, to conduct; performers include pianist Itay Goren, Ramapo College Chorale and Adelphi Chamber Orchestra

William Paterson University in Wayne will celebrate the music of Ludwig van Beethoven on Thursday, March 12, 2009 with a program featuring pianist Itay Goren, the Ramapo College Chorale and the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Raymond Torres-Santos, dean of the University’s College of the Arts and Communication. The concert, part of William Paterson’s Midday Artist Series, begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Shea Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Admission is free; a donation of $5 is suggested.

Torres-Santos, who joined the university in July 2008, will make his inaugural artistic appearance at the University. As a conductor, composer and pianist, Torres-Santos has worked with many legendary performers from the world of classical and popular music, including Plácido Domingo, Robert Goulet, Chita Rivera, Maynard Ferguson, Freddie Hubbard, and Tito Puente. His works include orchestral, electronic and vocal music for the concert hall, ballet, film, theater, television and radio. As conductor he has led the London Session Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Chorus, Cosmopolitan Symphony Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras, Dominican Republic National Orchestra, Queens Symphony Orchestra, Bronx Arts Ensemble Orchestra, and Hollywood studio orchestras in concerts and recordings.

Pianist Itay Goren appears frequently in solo and chamber music recitals and as soloist with orchestras in the United States and Europe. During the summer of 2008, he gave recitals in Prague and Paris and will return in 2009. A 2004 graduate of William Paterson University, Goren is the only alumnus to graduate with a double major in classical performance and jazz studies. For the past three years, Goren has been on the music faculty at Ramapo College where he is the pianist and assistant conductor for the college’s choral groups.

The Ramapo College Chorale is an academic choir that sings a broad repertoire encompassing works from the early renaissance to the present day. During its four years under the direction of Dr. Lisa Lutter, the Chorale has grown to become an impressive vocal ensemble that produces imaginative programs and performs in major venues. In the summer of 2008, the choir toured Europe and won several medals at the International Festival of Academic Choirs in the Czech Republic.

The Adelphi Chamber Orchestra is the oldest chamber orchestra in Northern New Jersey. Since its first public performance in 1953, the orchestra has maintained its goal of presenting stimulating programs and fostering good music. For this concert, the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra will be joined by students, faculty and alumni of William Paterson University.

The concert was organized and programmed by Elka Kirkpatrick, a pianist and adjunct professor of music at William Paterson. For additional information, contact the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
