WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO HOLD CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN

A daylong conference specifically designed to give women students an outlet for open communication and a greater sense of commitment to academic and career success will be held on Saturday, October 30 at William Paterson University in Wayne.

"Generations of Sisters Making Connections: Getting Together and Getting Real," will be held in the Student Center Ballroom from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and breakfast and lunch will be served.

Dr. Gwendolyn Goldsby Grant will deliver the keynote address at 9:30 a.m. Grant, a psychologist, who is known as "The Energizer" because of her faith in the power of positive thought and action, focuses on mental health education and is a specialist on relationships. A lecturer and a consultant, she is advisor to several Fortune 500 companies, and is the author of numerous articles and a best-selling book on male-female relationships, "The Best Kind of Loving." She writes an advice column for Essence magazine, and is a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows.

Participants, including students from several area high schools, will be able to attend six workshops designed to provide opportunities for open dialogue and communication among attendees. Scheduled workshops will cover such topics as academic survival strategies; love relationships; understanding political power and how to use it; exploring career options; developing successful financial strategies; and connecting with your body. Workshops will be held in the morning and afternoon.

The conference, open to women of all ethnicities, is sponsored by the Student Government Association; Office of Campus Activities; Institutional Advancement; William Paterson's Women's Center; the African, African-American Faculty and Staff Association; Women's Studies Department; and the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity.
