JOHN SIMS NAMED DIRECTOR OF EMPLOYMENT EQUITY AND DIVERSITY AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY

John Sims, Esq., of Somerset, has been appointed director of the Office of Employment Equity and Diversity at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

He will serve as the University's compliance officer and assist the campus community in promoting affirmative action, equal opportunity employment and diversity. He is responsible for interpreting and administering state and federal affirmative action/equal opportunity laws and regulations as well as the University's policies on diversity, sexual harassment and discrimination to ensure compliance.

Sims comes to the University from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, New Jersey, where he served as diversity management officer from 1997 to 2000. Previously, he was director of affirmative action at Community College of Beaver County, Monaca, Pennsylvania, from 1990 to 1997. Sims was a trial attorney and paralegal for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Los Angeles, California, from 1985 to 1989, and an attorney with the United States Navy, Judge Advocate General Corps, San Diego, California, from 1980 to 1984.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Sims earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the United States Navy Reserve, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the New Jersey Coalition for Affirmative Action, the New Jersey Association for Affirmative Action in Higher Education, and the New Jersey Employer Council.
