TALUJON PERCUSSION QUARTET TO OPEN NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY

William Paterson University in Wayne begins its 28th season of the New Music Festival Series with a performance by Talujon, a percussion quartet featuring William Paterson alumnus Thomas Kolor. The concert will be held on Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in Shea Center. Admission is free.

Talujon, comprised of Dominic Donato, Thomas Kolor, Michael Lipsey and David Cossin, was created to explore and expand upon the contemporary percussion repertoire. Described by the New York Times as an ensemble possessing an "edgy, unflagging energy," Talujon's performances of percussion classics and works by new and emerging composers feature a variety of traditional percussion instruments as well as instruments from non-Western cultures. Their first CD, "Hum," includes the music of Cage, Drummond, Guerguerian, Reich and Talujon.

Based in New York City, the group performs regularly at Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, the Kitchen, and the Knitting Factory. Nationally, Talujon has appeared at universities and concert halls in 25 states, as well as numerous festivals.

William PatersonŐs New Music Festival is directed by Raymond Des Roches, a William Paterson professor of music and one of the country's premier percussionists. The series is dedicated to highlighting the works of contemporary composers. For additional information, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
