WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO HOST DISTINGUISHED CHEMISTRY SCHOLAR Dr. Michael D. Ward, the Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the University of Minnesota, will speak at William Paterson University in Wayne on Friday, November 19, 1999. Ward, who is also a 1977 graduate of William Paterson with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, will address more than 400 high school students from around the state as part of the University's annual Chemistry Day for high school students. His lecture, "Materials in the Future: The Integration of Chemistry, Biology and Physics," is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Science Hall 200A on campus. Ward is the author of more than 100 articles on topics such as the synthesis of molecular materials and crystal engineering. A professor at the University of Minnesota since 1990, where he also serves as director of materials research science and engineering, Ward previously held positions in research and development for E.I. duPont de Nemours, Inc. and as a project leader in the Fundamental Research Laboratories at Standard Oil Company of Ohio. After earning his Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton University in 1981, Ward was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin.
