JOURNALISTS COKIE AND STEVE ROBERTS ANALYZE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DURING DECEMBER DISTINGUISHED LECTURER SERIES PROGRAM AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY

This year's historic presidential race, still undecided weeks after the November 7 election, left many analysts and pundits spinning and reeling as they grappled with the vote recount in Florida, the history of the electoral college, and other constitutional questions. Veteran journalists Cokie and Steven Roberts will provide their insights on the 2000 presidential election on Friday, December 8 when they speak as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series at William Paterson University in Wayne.

The lecture begins at 8 p.m. in Shea Center on campus. A limited number of single tickets may be available at the Shea Box Office; for ticket availability, and to purchase single tickets, please call the box office at 973-720-2371 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Prices are $24 standard; $22 for senior citizens, William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni; $8 for William Paterson students; and $12 for students from other schools. Parking is free.

Cokie Roberts is co-anchor of the ABC news program "This Week with Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts" and serves an ABC's chief Congressional analyst. She is also a news analyst for National Public Radio, where she has been the Congressional correspondent for more than 10 years.

Steven Roberts, a journalist for more than 35 years, has covered major events including the anti-war movement and student revolts of the '60s and '70s and eight presidential campaigns. He has worked as bureau chief in Athens and Los Angeles and as Congressional and White House correspondent for the New York Times. Since 1997, he has been the Shapiro Professor of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University where he teaches American politics and the role of the news media.

Together, the Roberts write a syndicated newspaper column anchored in the New York Daily News and are contributing writers for USA Weekend. Earlier this year, their book, "From This Day Forward," an account of their 30-year marriage and other famous marriages, hit the New York Times bestseller list.
