WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK NOVEMBER 13 TO 17 Lectures by Ian Williams, United Nations editor for The Nation magazine, and Norton Mezvinsky, an expert on the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East, will be among the highlights of William Paterson University's observance of International Education Week from November 13 to 17. International Education Week was initiated this year by U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley as a special time for students to recognize the value of gaining a broad understanding of the cultures, languages and governments of other nations. William Paterson's observance begins on Monday, November 13 with the lecture by Williams, to be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. His topic is "Global Cop: The American Role in Global Peace Making." Mezvinksy, a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University, will discuss "The Religious and Political Dimensions of the Arab Israeli Conflict" on Thursday, November 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. The week's events, which are sponsored by the University's Center for International Education, also include a concert of international music on Monday, November 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Machuga Student Center Ballroom; a Center for International Education Open House from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14 in Wayne Hall; a faculty panel discussion on "The Role of Curriculum Development in Promoting International Education" on Wednesday, November 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium; and an evening of international poetry and music, also on November 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Starbucks Café in the Machuga Student Center. All events are free and open to the public.
