WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT "FESTIVAL DE NAVIDAD" "Festival de Navidad," a joyful celebration of Spanish music and dance by Flamenco Vivo/Carlota Santana dance company, will be presented at William Paterson University in Wayne on Thursday, December 14, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. in Shea Center. A pre-performance lecture is scheduled at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $22 standard, $20 for senior citizens and the William Paterson community, and $12 for non-William Paterson students. Tickets for children and William Paterson students are $7. Virtuoso singing and guitar playing accompany the breathtaking, percussive footwork of the masterful flamenco dancers to celebrate the folkloric fiesta of Navidad with traditional songs, carols and dancing. The show ignites the fire, passion and joy that is flamenco and reveals the essence of cultures inhabiting Spain for centures -- Spanish, Judaic, North African and Gypsy. The show is "an infectiously joyful celebration of music and dance" said The New York Times in a review. "The dancing was fun and colorful, the heel-toe work dazzling, and the atmosphere created by the company heated," said Back Stage magazine. Artistic director Carlota Santana, who founded the dance company in 1983, was recently designated by Dance Magazine as "the keeper of the flamenco." The company tours extensively throughout the United States with six to twelve dancers and musicians. They have performed to sold-out houses at Lincoln Center's Clark Studio Theatre and The Joyce Theatre. For additional information or to purchase
