WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOLDS SUMMER HONOR BAND CONCERT

William Paterson University in Wayne will present its second annual summer honor band concert featuring a 90-member ensemble of young band musicians from North Jersey high schools on Saturday, August 5 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

J. Craig Davis, director of bands at William Paterson, and Mindy Schierman, director of bands for the Millburn Township Public Schools, will conduct the concert. Student participants were selected by their high school band directors to represent their school. The program will include works by Reinike, Grainger, Walton, Smith and Shostakovich.

Davis, an assistant professor of music at William Paterson, currently serves as director of the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra. He is also director of music admissions and recruitment, and brass coordinator for the University's music department. Davis holds a doctor of musical arts degree in trumpet performance from The Julliard School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He is a resident of Hackensack.

Schierman serves as band chairperson of New Jersey Music Educator's Region 1.
