UNIVERSITY JAZZ ENSEMBLE BRINGS BIG-BAND-ERA MUSIC TO PREAKNESS SHOPPING CENTER

If you're a jazz fan, bring your chair and enjoy a free outdoor concert by the William Paterson University Summer Jazz Ensemble on Wednesday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the main parking lot of the Preakness Shopping Center in Wayne.

Under the direction of Stephen Marcone, chair of William Paterson's Music Department, the 18-member ensemble of high school, University and community musicians will perform tunes popularized during the big-band era of the 1930s and 1940s. The one-hour concert will include the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Glenn Miller.

The concert will be held rain or shine. The event is sponsored by the Preakness Shopping Center Merchants Association, which will make a donation to the University's music scholarship fund in honor of the occasion.

William Paterson's Summer Jazz Ensemble is one of nearly two dozen ensembles that form the core of the Jazz Studies Program at the University. The program, which attracts students from all over the country, is known for its emphasis on small-group playing, improvisation and commitment to the jazz tradition.

For further information about the concert, call Eisenman-Todd, Inc. at 201-837-9700.
