"Tosca," Giacomo Puccini's popularly acclaimed opera, will be presented by OMTI (Opera Music Theatre International) at William Paterson University in Wayne on Friday, February 19 at 8 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Jerome Hines is the artistic director. Tickets are available in advance or on the day of the performance at $15 standard; $13 for the William Paterson community and senior citizens, and $7 for students. A story of romance and political intrigue set in 18th century Italy, the cast includes Diana Vidu (shown in photo) in the title role as soprano. Vidu recently performed the role of Una in Stiffello with the New York Grand Opera in Central Park and was the recipient of Paris' Lys D'or Foundation Award for exceptional musical talent. John Virgilli performs the role of tenor Cavaradossi. Also in the cast is bass-baritone Perry Ward and Tom Goldstein, a gifted young bass who has been recognized by the Luciano Pavarotti Competition and the Licia Albanese Puccini Competition. Opera Music Theatre International (OMTI) was founded in 1987 by Metropolitan Opera singer Jerome Hines, who has marked over fifty consecutive years as a star at the Metropolitan as well as appearances at every great opera house in the world.
