WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY OFFERS TRIPS TO LONDON, WEST AFRICA AND TAIWAN THIS SPRING

Trips to London, West Africa, and Taiwan are on the itinerary this spring and summer through William Paterson University's Center for Continuing Education and Distance Learning (CEDL). All three are led by University professors and are available for undergraduate or graduate credit.

"Broadcast Journalism and Impressions of West Africa"
A chance to explore a distant culture is offered this May to participants of a 14-day trip designed to study the urban and rural life of the people of West Africa. "Broadcast Journalism and Impressions of West Africa" offers the opportunity to view the culture and lifestyle of Gambia up close as they meet students, villagers, and government officials and join a community development project to work alongside the local people. Tour members will record their experiences in order to create a full-length documentary upon their return. The trip runs from May 22 to June 5 and costs $1,799 per person double occupancy. Included in the price are roundtrip airfares from New York to Africa, as well as local transportation. Daily breakfast and dinner are also included. Pre-trip orientation is required with tour leaders John Rhodes and Barry Morganstern, professors of communication at William Paterson University. Rhodes has an extensive background in broadcast journalism and was a producer with CNN with experience overseas. Morganstern's expertise lies in intercultural communication and he has traveled to many parts of the globe gathering research in support of this discipline.

"Taiwan: A Media and Culture Study Tour"
For individuals interested in journalism, media industries and Asia, a trip to Taiwan to study these topics is scheduled for May 30 to June 14. "Taiwan: A Media and Culture Study Tour" offers participants seven days of instruction at the National Chengchi University's College of Communication and the National Taiwan University's Graduate Institute of Journalism. Instruction will be amplified by field trips to major film, television, newspaper, and advertising companies for meetings with scholars, students and professionals in Taiwanese media. Participants will also have time to visit museums and other cultural sites in Taipei, the capital city. The cost for the trip is $1,550 per person double occupancy, and includes roundtrip airfare from New York to Taipei, and 13 nights accommodation. In Taipei, all instruction and supplies at both universities are included. The trip's instructors are Diana Peck and Casey Lum, professors of communication at William Paterson University. Excursions to other points of interest in Asia are available.

"London Theater Week"
"London Theater Week" offers nine days in England's capital city from June 24 to July 2. The trip includes round-trip airfare from New York to London, seven nights first class hotel accommodation, continental breakfast and tickets for two plays in the city's famed West End theatre district. A backstage theatre tour and a tour of BBC broadcast TV facilities are also scheduled. Barbara Sandberg, a professor of communication at William Paterson University, and the group's leader, will hold pre-trip orientation sessions and lectures. Sandberg has an extensive background in drama, theatre and related subjects and is a drama therapist. Cost of the trip is $1699 per person double occupancy; excursions to England's Lake Country and Scotland are available.
