A conference for teachers that is designed to help them integrate information about Asia into their elementary and secondary classrooms using art and technology will be held at William Paterson University on Thursday, April 10.
Corey Schamble, a senior from Wanaque majoring in graphic design, has been named the first place winner in the Vote! 2008 Poster Contest sponsored by the campus chapter of the American Democracy Project in collaboration with the Art Department and the Ben Shahn Galleries. Schamble’s winning poster will be reproduced for distribution on campus in the fall.
Clark Terry Performs with Students and Faculty at the Legendary Blue Note Jazz Club A number of William Paterson University jazz students and faculty performed with jazz master Clark Terry as members of the Clark Terry Big Band during the band’s performances at New York’s legendary Blue Note jazz club during the week of February 19-24.
A 30-foot tall work by Ming Fay, art, called “Jungle Tango,” is part of a show “Back to the Garden,” on exhibit in Flushing, Queens now through April 26 at Crossing Art. The piece is made from mixed materials: wire, foam, papier-mache, and paint.

Music Industry Executives and Global Defense Company Honored During 18th Annual Legacy Award Gala on April 5 Two prominent music industry executives and one of the country’s premier global defense aerospace companies will be honored during a music-filled evening as the William Paterson University Foundation hosts its 18th annual Legacy Award Gala on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at The Villa at Mountain Lakes. New Exhibits in Ben Shahn Galleries “Currents,” the annual national juried art exhibition sponsored by Studio Montclair, joins “Primary,” an exhibit featuring four artists who use the medium of drawing, in Ben Shahn Galleries from March 24 through April 22. A reception for the exhibits will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Upcoming Theatre and Music Events
Pilar Rioja, known worldwide as the Queen of Spanish dance, will perform on Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. On April 10, seven music students who are the recipients of the Tami Cotsakos ’71 Music Scholarship will perform in a special Midday Artists Series concert at 12:30 p.m. in Shea Center. "Alexander Who is Not, Not, Not, Not Going to Move,” a children's favorite for ages pre-K through grade 5, will be staged on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. Women's concerns are explored in "Talking With," a play by Jane Martin, from March 25 to 30 at the Hunziker Black Box Theatre. William Paterson will premiere "Margot Frank: The Diary of the Other Young Girl,” a new musical, from April 9 to 14. All events unless otherwise noted will be held in Shea Center.

The William Paterson softball team will begin its home slate, and open New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play, with a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark Saturday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Softball Field. William Paterson owns a 9-5 record, including a 7-5 mark at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., March 15-21.

Baseball to Begin NJAC Play March 28
The William Paterson baseball team (9-6) will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Friday, March 28, hosting New Jersey City at 3:00 p.m. The Pioneers recently returned from a nine-game trip to the Greater Phoenix (Ariz.) Invitational March 14-21, posting a 6-3 record.
