Financial Expert to Lecture on British Explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and Leadership

Arthur Ainsberg, a well-known figure in the financial services sector and a scholar of the early 20th century explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, will discuss the leadership lessons that can be learned from Shackleton’s 1914 expedition to Antarctica during a Shier Entrepreneurship Program Lecture at William Paterson University in Wayne on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. The lecture will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the 1600 Valley Road Auditorium on campus. Admission is free and the public is invited.

University Opens New Lounge for Faculty and Staff

Coffee, dessert and news are now available to faculty and staff in a newly created space on campus set aside exclusively for them in the University Commons. The new Employee Lounge, which is adjacent to the Pioneer Restaurant, is open from 10:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

William Paterson to Hold 28th Annual Bilingual/ESL Conference On December 5

The complex connections between bilingual/English as a second language education and special education will be the focus of a conference for language advocates on Friday, December 5, 2008 at William Paterson University.

Upcoming Music Events

A special William Paterson holiday jazz concert featuring classics like the Nutcracker Suite and The Night Before Christmas will be held on Friday, December 12 at 8:00 p.m. in Shea Center.

The University’s New Music Series continues on Monday, December 1, 2008 with a concert featuring the William Paterson University Percussion Ensemble and the William Paterson University New Music Ensemble. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Shea Center on campus.

The Lost Elves, a new holiday musical for children presented by the Connecticut Children’s Theatre, will be held on December 12, 14, 17, and 19 at Shea Center. The show includes original music, sing-a-longs and audience participation.


University Signs Agreement with Bergen Community College for Transfer of Honors Students

Present at the signing of the recent agreement between the University and Bergen Community College (BCC) were (from left) Maria Makowiecka, associate professor of English, and co-director of BCC’s Honors Program; Gary Porter, academic vice president, BCC; Susan Dinan, director of the University’s Honors College; Dorothy Altman, associate professor of English, and co-director of the Honors Program at BCC; and Stephen Hahn, associate provost, William Paterson University.

The University has entered into an articulation agreement with Bergen Community College (BCC) to facilitate the transfer of honors program students at BCC into the University’s Honors College. The agreement will begin with students registered for the fall 2009 semester.

New Electric Vehicles Conserve Energy

Taking another step with its energy conservation initiatives, the University has purchased four electric vehicles to be used by the mail processing and physical plant operations staff for transporting them to work sites on campus. The new vehicles have replaced older, less efficient, gasoline-powered trucks.

Dark Star Orchestra to Perform on December 6

Dark Star Orchestra, the remarkable tribute band that has been delivering the Grateful Dead experience to old and new fans since 1997, will present its critically acclaimed live performance on Saturday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m. in Shea Center.

William Paterson to Host Third Annual Comedy Festival


William Paterson University’s third annual Comedy Festival will be held on December 12 and 13 on the campus in Wayne, NJ. Both events will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre.

Men’s Basketball Picked to Win NJAC Title; Start Season with Win

The William Paterson men’s basketball team (1-0), the preseason favorite to win the NJAC championship, started its season with a 74-59 victory at FDU-Florham Nov 16. The Pioneers’ home opener will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, against New York City Tech at 6:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball Team (1-0) Picked to Win NJAC North Title

The William Paterson women's basketball team (1-0) will compete at Muhlenberg’s Scotty Wood Tournament this weekend, facing Penn State Altoona Friday, Nov. 21, at 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers are the preseason favorite to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) North Division title.

Swimming and Diving Teams to Resume Action December 2

The William Paterson men's (4-1) and women's (5-1) swimming and diving teams will resume action Tuesday, Dec. 2, at home against NJIT at 6:00 p.m.

No. 15 Field Hockey Reaches Semifinals of ECAC Tournament

The No. 15 William Paterson field hockey team (15-4, 4-2 NJAC) finished its season with a second straight trip to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament semifinals. The 15 victories this season were one shy of the program’s top win total of 16 (2003).

Men's Soccer Wins ECAC Title, Survives Pair of Shootouts

The 22nd-ranked William Paterson men's soccer team (13-5-4) won the ECAC Metro Region Tournament title, twice surviving a penalty-kick shootout to secure the championship.  Following a 1-1 double-overtime, 4-3 shootout result in the final Nov. 17 against Rutgers-Newark, sophomore Matthew Heitmann was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Football Finishes Season with 34-20 Come-from-Behind Victory


William Paterson scored 27 straight points to end the game and overcome a 20-7 deficit, defeating visiting Western Connecticut 34-20 Nov. 17. With the victory, the Pioneers finished the season with a 4-6 overall record.

Women’s Soccer Finishes Season with ECAC Tournament Appearance

The William Paterson women's soccer team (10-7-1, 4-4-1 NJAC) ended its season with a bid to the ECAC Metro Region Tournament, the program’s first appearance since 2003.
