Campus Panel Reminisces

Ten members of the University’s faculty discussed their early days on campus, how students have changed over the years, and the impact of technology, during a panel discussion held on September 1 as part of the opening day kickoff of the 2009-10 academic year.

Focus is on Prevention to Keep H1N1 from Campus
Campus hotline 720-H1N1 (4161) and Web site to access the latest information on the flu


Prevention is the key element in the fight against an outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus this semester on campus, and the staff at the University’s Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center has been meeting all summer with representatives from campus departments and organizations to disseminate prevention information to faculty, students, and staff.

William Paterson University Homecoming Set for October 17
--Pioneer Football Team to Play The College of New Jersey
at 4:00 p.m.


The University will celebrate Homecoming 2009 on Saturday, October 17. Alumni and members of the local community are invited to participate in a variety of events hosted by the William Paterson University Alumni Association.

Announcing the 32nd Season of the Jazz Room Concert Series

Mulgrew Miller, director of the Jazz Studies Program, and Gary Bartz will open the fall 2009 season of The Jazz Room at William Paterson on October 4. The series continues with Ben Allison; Carl Allen and Rodney Whitaker; Paul Meyers and the World on a String Quintet; Carrie Jackson; and Frank Wess.

Five by Design will present "Club Swing," a celebration of America's swing era with a big band sound, on October 3 as part of the University's Vistas Series.

On Saturday, October 10, Grammy Award-winning Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo bring their Acoustic Brotherhood Tour to Shea Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Special guest Hacienda will open for this rare all-acoustic concert.

William Paterson University Sponsors 14th Annual “Walk for the Cure” Breast Cancer Walk on Wednesday, October 1
—Event begins at Zanfino Plaza at 12:30 p.m.

A fund-raising walk to promote breast cancer awareness, and health and wellness, will be held at William Paterson University for students, faculty, staff and alumni. The public is also invited to attend the event on October 1.



President Reviews University Accomplishments, Outlines Goals, for Coming Year in Opening Day Address

University to Host 2009 New Jersey Gubernatorial Debate on October 16

William Paterson will host a 2009 New Jersey Gubernatorial Debate on Friday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Shea Center on campus. The University and media partners The Record, The Herald News, The Star-Ledger, WWOR-TV Secaucus, WTXF-Philadelphia, and Fox News were selected by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) to sponsor the debate.

Details about the event, including information on tickets for faculty, staff, and students, will be announced shortly.

Issue Of Torture and U.S. Policy to be Explored by Law and Security Expert Karen Greenberg on September 17
—Lecture by Greenberg is presented in observance of Constitution Day

William Paterson University will observe Constitution Day on Thursday, September 17 with a lecture by Karen J. Greenberg, executive director of the Center on Law and Security at the New York University School of Law, titled “How Did We Get to Torture? Torture and U.S. Policy.” The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 11:00 a.m. in the David and Lorraine Cheng Library Auditorium on campus.

Three New Exhibits in Campus Galleries

A selection of recent artworks created by members of the University art faculty, and an exhibit inspired by Paterson, the epic poem by the modern American poet and Rutherford native William Carlos Williams, join a one-person exhibit which explores overarching themes from Greek mythology by New Jersey artist Alaine Becker at the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University in Wayne from September 14 through October 16, 2009.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. A reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, September 20, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Men’s Soccer (4-1-1) Set for NJAC Opener Saturday

The William Paterson tennis team (2-1, 0-1 NJAC) will play at Lehman Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 4:00 p.m. before hosting Lancaster Bible Saturday, Sept. 19, at 12:00 p.m.

Homecoming, Hall of Fame Set for Oct. 17-18

William Paterson University will celebrate its 2009 Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 17, and will induct five individuals and one team into the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Pioneers to Add Men’s Golf Program

William Paterson University will welcome the addition of men’s golf to its NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program when the Pioneers begin competitive play in the spring of 2011.
