Joan Snyder is a leading figure in the feminist art movement, and she began her expressionist studies of women's bodies and female anatomy in the late 1960s as that movement was getting underway in the United States. Components taken from nature like rose petals and twigs are layered and embedded in acrylic and oil paint in this diptych to convey a tactile dimension and a "female sensibility," as the artist has stated about her paintings. 5 x 16 ½ inches.
