Lectures, performances, and theater will support the theme of “Women’s Art: Women’s Vision,” William Paterson University’s annual observance of Women’s History Month in March. Most events are free, and open to the public.

Students to Participate in Poster Contest Aimed at Registration And Voting

The American Democracy Project (ADP) is collaborating with the Art Department and the Ben Shahn Galleries to sponsor a Student Poster Vote! 2008 Contest aimed at encouraging students to register and vote.

University’s Russ Berrie Institute Offers Lecture on Diversity

In partnership with Unilever, the University’s Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales recently offered the campus community a lecture on diversity. Unilever’s representatives focused the discussion on how acknowledging and appreciating all diversity, including ethnic and gender diversity and diversity of thought, leads to living a balanced life and positively affects the corporate bottom line. Presenting the lecture in the Valley Road auditorium were Leland Sember (left), North East grocery sales director for Unilever, and Kimberly Senter, director of category management for Unilever.

Ice Hockey Team Wins Its First Regular Season Championship

The William Paterson Pioneer ice hockey team, a club sport, won its final regular season home game 7-1 over the University of Pennsylvania on February 9 and skated into history by capturing first place in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association standings for the first time.

Programs Featuring Stephen Sondheim and Brian Cashman/Theo Epstein Entertain Sold Out Audiences at Distinguished Lecturer Series

Composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, and baseball general managers Brian Cashman of the New York Yankees and Theo Epstein of the Boston Red Sox drew sold-out audiences in separate events as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series recently in Shea Center for Performing Arts.

The Jazz Room Series, now in its 30th year of exciting performances, continues with vocalist Jacque Johnson on March 2.

The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble celebrates its 40th anniversary with a concert on February 25.

Three-time Grammy winners Los Lobos will perform at William Paterson on Friday, March 7 at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, March 15, The Fab Faux, a popular Beatles tribute band, will perform at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is a benefit for the Songs of Love Foundation.

William Paterson University to Sponsor Conference on Lesson Study in March

A conference for educators designed to teach the discipline of lesson study, a professional learning process for teachers to examine and improve their instructional methods and enhance the quality of education in the classroom, will be held at William Paterson University from March 5 to 7.

Swimming and Diving Teams Finish Seasons at Metropolitan Championships


The William Paterson men’s (9-4) and women’s (11-4) swimming and diving teams finished the 2007-08 season at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 22-24.  The Pioneer men placed seventh of 15 teams, while the Pioneer women were eighth of 19 teams.

Former Pioneer Standout Horace Jenkins Named to d3hoops.com All-Decade First Team

Former William Paterson men’s basketball standout Horace Jenkins (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth), the 2001 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Player of the Year who led the Pioneers to two NCAA Tournament Final Fours, was named to the d3hoops.com All-Decade First Team.

William Paterson Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

William Paterson University celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Feb. 9, honoring the achievements, and encouraging the participation of, girls and women in sports.  WP Athletics sponsored a special program following a home doubleheader against Richard Stockton, featuring women in professional sports.


First-Place Women’s Basketball to Host NJAC Tournament Semifinal this Wednesday

The William Paterson women’s basketball (20-5, 11-2 NJAC) team has earned the top overall seed for the NJAC Tournament, and will host a semifinal contest Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7:00 p.m.  The Pioneers, the winner of the North Division, will face the winner of the Kean/Rutgers-Newark first-round game.

Men’s Basketball Team to Host NJAC Tournament Semifinal this Thursday

After winning the NJAC North Division regular-season title, the William Paterson men’s basketball team (18-6, 10-3 NJAC) has earned the right to host a semifinal game of the NJAC Tournament Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m.  The Pioneers will face the winner of the Rowan/Montclair State first-round game.
